Undergraduate students complete one field placement for a total of 12 semester credit hours and 480 clock hours over the course of two consecutive semesters in one agency.

NOTE: The numbers in parenthesis below are suggested weekly averages obtained by dividing the number of weeks in the semester by the number of hours required by the Council on Social Work Education. The student may or may not choose to arrange the hours of the field placement using the suggested weekly average, but all hours must be completed within the allotted number of weeks.
1st Semester Field
SOCW 4451: Social Work Field Instruction I (4 credit hours)
Supervised social work experience in a human service agency. Integration of generalist practice concepts into professional practice experiences. The field placement requires a minimum of 240 clock hours in the agency during the first semester .
Prerequisites: SOCW 2311, 2313, 3301, 3302, 3304, and concurrent enrollment in SOCW 4251. For admission into field, students must have a GPA of 2.5 in all courses with an SOCW prefix with no grade below "C" and an overall GPA of 2.0. P/F grading. BSW majors only. 2nd Semester Field
SOCW 4452: Social Work Field Instruction II (4 credit hours)
Supervised social work experience in a human service agency. Integration of generalist practice concepts into professional practice experiences. The field placement requires a minimum of 240 clock hours in the agency during the second semester.
Prerequisites: SOCW 3303, 3306, 4251, 4451. This course must be taken in the semester immediately following SOCW 4451. P/F grading. BSW majors only. For admission into field, students must have a GPA of 2.5 in all courses with an SOCW prefix with no grade below "C" and an overall GPA of 2.0. DFPS CPS Title IV-E Placement
SOCW 4853: Social Work Field Instruction (8 credit hours)
Supervised social work experience in a Child Protective Services agency. Integration of generalist practice concepts into professional practice experiences. The field placement requires a minimum of 480 clock hours in the agency. Here, the field requirement is fulfilled in one semester.
Prerequisites: Acceptance into the Title IV-E Child Welfare Program, concurrent enrollment in SOCW 4453 and completion of SOCW 2311, 2313, 3301, 3302, 3303, 3304, 3306 and SOCI 3352. P/F grading. BSW majors only. For admission into field, students must have a GPA of 2.5 in all courses with an SOCW prefix with no grade below "C" and an overall GPA of 2.0.
