Eneyda Lisette Sorto
Eneyda Lisette Sorto

 Dear Students, Faculty and Staff,

With deepest regrets, I must inform you of the loss of one of our own.

On November 16, a student from our school, Eneyda Lisette Sorto (who went by her middle name), died tragically after being hit by a car while crossing the street.

We are all saddened by this loss and we send our condolences to her family and friends. With tragic accidents like this, some students may find it helpful to speak with a counselor.  We are sensitive to this and strongly encourage any student to speak with someone, if needed.

The UTA Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) office provides counseling services for any student in need.  Although they are not able take appointments at this time, you can always be seen as a walk-in. CAPS is located in Ransom Hall, Third floor, Room 303, near the University Center. The office hours are from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday.  The CAPS website is https://www.uta.edu/caps/services/Lets%20Talk.php

You can also call MAVS Talk 24 Hour Crisis Line 817-272-TALK (8255) or UT Arlington Police: 817-272-3003.

In addition, you can reach out to one of our BSW or MSW advisors in the Office of Advising and Student Success for an appointment or as a walk-in. When you contact our SSW advisors, please let them know it is in regards to needing support for this tragic loss. The main phone number is 817-272-3647 and the office is located on the third floor of Social Work Building A, Room 319. The website is http://www.uta.edu/ssw/student-resources/oass/index.php

Every student contributes in no small measure to the community we create here at the School of Social Work and at UTA. The loss of any student, particularly in such a tragic way, deeply hurts us all. On behalf of the faculty and staff, please join me in expressing our deepest sympathies to everyone who loved Lisette and everyone she loved.

We will provide you with more information when it becomes available about funeral arrangements and any memorial observances.  Meanwhile, we will set up a table on the first floor of the Social Work Building A in memory of Lisette.  Please stop by to sign the card or leave messages for Lisette’s family and friends.

Sincerely and with deep regrets,

Scott D. Ryan
