Directions Home

Updated: Jul 11, 2011

Directions Home is the City of Fort Worth’s plan to make homelessness rare, short-term, and non-recurring in ten years. It was formerly adopted in the Summer of 2008 by Mayor Mike Moncrief and members of the Fort Worth City Council.

The plan focuses on reducing the number of people who are chronically homeless and medically vulnerable. It is based on 7 strategies:

  • Increasing the supply of permanent supportive housing
  • Expanding opportunities and service linked with accountability
  • Developing and operating a central resource facility
  • Coordinating and expanding homelessness prevention initiatives
  • Supporting and strengthening existing public, private, and faith-based efforts
  • Mitigating the negative community impacts of homelessness
  • Leading, educating, and advocating for change

For each strategy, actions items identify a specific goal, relevant partners, funding sources, and low, medium, and high funding levels. As the Independent Evaluator, the University of Texas at Arlington Community Services Center is responsible for measuring progress for all pertinent action items.
