A Program of Parenting and Recovery Support for Families
Children exposed to abuse, neglect and/or drug-involved environments are placed at risk for developmental problems by a constellation of factors—poor nutrition, inadequate medical care, poor parenting/lack of appropriate developmental stimulation, passive exposure to substances of abuse, and unstable home environments.
Program Design: The New Connections Family Intervention program is a comprehensive education program for women who are juggling the demands of parenting, keeping safe, and staying clean and sober all at the same time. Services are provided by a multidisciplinary team representing social work, chemical dependency counseling; parent education; and health education.
Eligibility: New Connections Family Intervention program serves women at risk for drug use who have child(ren) age 0 to 18 months, and at-risk women who are pregnant. Some classes involved partners and significant adult family members.
