ARLINGTON INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT
ROLE AND PURPOSE: Identify students who may potentially miss enough days or have sufficient tardies to be considered chronically absent (using any absence more than 10% of the school year); identify issues related to the absences; and work with the student, the family, and community agencies to improve attendance and thus behavior and academic success.
• High School Diploma; Bachelor’s Degree preferred. Experience:
• 3 years’ experience working with at-risk children, youth and their families.
• to communicate in more than one language, preferably Spanish/English.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
I. SCHOOL/ORGANIZATIONAL CLIMATE
A. Serve as the school attendance navigator to investigate, mediate and assess attendance violation issues related to attendance law.
B. Cooperate with the school staff (assistant principals, counselors and attendance clerks) for the purpose of school attendance improvement.
C. Ability to read and interpret rules and regulations pertaining to school attendance.
II. STUDENT MANAGEMENT
A. Experience in problem solving or mediation.
B. Experience in intake needs assessment processes.
III. SCHOOL/COMMUNITY RELATIONS
A. Ability to communicate effectively with parents in order to develop a plan for successful school attendance.
B. Serve as a liaison for school referrals to community agency partners.
C. Working knowledge of area economic and social service agencies.
A. Basic computer skills to include Microsoft Word and Excel.
B. Good oral and written communications skills.
C. Ability to organize, manage time and prioritize duties
D. Ability to work well with peers, the public, parents and students.
E. Provide monthly documentation of intake, assessment and referral activity.
F. Meet biweekly with the project supervisor.
G. Assist in the collection of data required for grant reporting.
H. Perform other duties as assigned.
