A graduate degree from an accredited college or university in a human services field of study is required.
Three years of paid experience in family assessment and/or counseling is required. Family Mediation experience is preferred.
Licensure to practice in the State of Texas as a Social Worker, Professional Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist or Psychologist is required. A candidate must possess knowledge of family systems theory; professional standards, practices and techniques of counseling, mediation and psychological assessments; basic theory of psychopathology and clinical issues related to child development and the effects of divorce on children (required.) Must possess excellent communication and strong writing skills. Needs proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn/become proficient in other computer programs. A valid driver’s license and safe driving record is required. Must provide/maintain proof of auto liability insurance at all times. A working knowledge of the Texas Family Code as it pertains to adoption, child custody, access and support is preferred. Basic mediation (40 hour) training is preferred. Bilingual in English and Spanish is required.
Conducts comprehensive contested child custody and adoption assessments utilizing, but not limited to interviews of parents, children, relatives, mental health professionals, law enforcement and relevant members of the community. Prepares computer generated social study reports and provides such to the Family District Courts. Prepares written reports for use in litigation. Serves as a witness providing testimony in contested child custody and domestic relations disputes. Conducts mediation and conciliation conferences. Obtains, interprets and evaluates information regarding family behavior from various sources. Identifies, explores and addresses dysfunctional family interaction patterns. Demonstrates problem solving skills to assist parties in accepting or finding solutions. Assists parties in accepting or finding solustions. Communicates effectively under stressful situations. Establishes and maintains positive working relationships with staff, attorneys, judiciary and other professionals. Maintains confidentiality with regard to information received/observed as a function of this position. Performs all other duties as assigned.
