Scholarship
The Greek system can provide you with an opportunity to earn academic
awards, recognition, and scholarships. Support and assistance are always
forthcoming from fellow members during study hours, tutoring sessions,
and many informal programs. All of these efforts are conducive to creating
an attitude within the Greek system that values the academic achievement.
Community Service
Greek students are extremely involved in service to the Arlington
community and national philanthropies. Many fraternities and sororities
have special projects they undertake annually. In addition, Greek students
work together as a whole to give back to the community that has given
so much to UTA.
Leadership
Greek Life offers endless opportunities to develop leadership skills.
Whether you are on a committee, running for chapter office, or participating
in campus or community events, you can always be involved. The skills
that Greeks develop help them become leaders in all campus organizations.
Social
In addition to academic pursuits, one must develop socially to become
a well-rounded individual. The Greek System promotes social responsibility,
provides members with an outlet for close personal relationships, and
makes possible truly enriching collegiate and adult experiences.
Athletics
Fraternities and sororities are actively involved in intramural competition
within the Department of Recreational Sports. Organizations and individuals
participate in a number of different sports and at different competitive
levels. Competition in the spirit of Greek fun is the purpose.
Friendships
As a member of a Greek organization, you can form friendships unlike
those found in many other organizations. Greek membership is not about
conformity. No sorority or fraternity is made up of members who are
exactly alike. By choosing Greek Life, you will meet people who will
become your closest friends. These people will cheer you on when you're
successful and cheer you up when the going gets tough. From this unbreakable
support system, you can easily enter other areas of college life, knowing
your Greek family is behind you, no matter what.
Career Networking
Say you've graduated or are just looking for a summer job. In today's
job market, it's going to take more than looking at want-ads and job
postings. You need to network with people. Greek organizations are
one way to do this. Using the resources of Greek members, like alumni,
you may find the perfect job. Joining the Greek system can be an investment
in your future!
Diversity
Diversity builds strength and character and serves to bring members
closer together. Organizations create an environment where differences
and ideas can be discussed and embraced. No two chapters are exactly
alike. Many chapters pride themselves on their ethnic diversity and
the varied backgrounds of their members.
