Leadership Retreat, August 13-15, 2007
The annual Leadership Retreat is a three day event packed with presentations on leadership, as well as workshops focused on the improvement and continued development of leadership and interpersonal communication skills. The primary purpose of this retreat is to provide student leaders with an opportunity to interact with each other, network with professionals, other student leaders and the continued growth and development of their skills as leaders.
Participants of these events are presented with a chance to discover what leadership skills they possess, and directed on how they can harness those skills into something much more. Active involvement from campus professionals and various student leaders offer diverse forum of learning.
By joining over 150 student leaders from across the UT Arlington campus you will help set the 2007-2008 University Agenda.
The Division of Student Affairs is excited to bring a new tradition to the 30th Annual Leadership Retreat! This year’s retreat will kick off with a Leadership Breakfast on Monday, August 13 from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the University Center Bluebonnet Ballroom with opening remarks and a welcome from President James D. Spaniolo.
The Student Affairs Leadership Breakfast will provide students the opportunity to engage in active dialogue with deans, assistant deans, associate deans and vice presidents about current leadership trends and issues, as well as discuss their philosophy and style of leadership. It is hoped that through this breakfast, a better understanding and greater mutual respect will be created between student and University leaders.

After registering for the Leadership Retreat you will receive an email confirmation that will direct you to the website for FIRO-B testing. This test will take approximately 20 minutes to complete. Participation of the online assessment must be completed by August 8, 2007.
When taking the assessment try not to dwell too long on any particular item. Carefully read the instructions that precede each section.
This assessment is commonly used to help people
- Become aware of their interpersonal needs
- Become aware of how their needs may be perceived by others
- Identify career related tasks and activities of greater interest
- Build more satisfying relationships
- Understand their own leadership behaviors
You will not receive a report when you complete the assessment. You will receive your results at the Student Leadership Retreat in August. At the retreat, the staff of UTA Counseling Services and Career Services will work with you in small groups to help you understand your results and learn ways to use this information in your role as a campus leader.
