Description: |
The Arlington Life Shelter provides, shelter, meals and rehabilitative services for homeless men, women and families. The program emphasis is assisting clients to become self-sufficient through case management services, structured employment programs, and mandatory classes four days per week focusing on life and job skills.

Volunteer Opportunity: |
Resident Services -
Assist with resident check-in welcoming residents and distributing towels and personal care items (5:30 - 7:30 nightly)
Help with tutoring and homework for the children (3 - 5 p.m.).
Teach classes for small groups of adults based upon curriculum provided (Monday â Thursday, 7 â 8:30 p.m. weekly/bi-weekly).
Care for infants and toddlers while the parents attend classes (Monday - Thursday, 7-8:30 p.m.).
Take family photographs and make scrapbooks with the families.
Dress in character and read stories to the children any night of the week (7:15-8:30 p.m.).
Provide makeovers for the female residents on Friday or Saturday night (7:15 p.m.).
Be a âLinen Sisterâ - wash and fold shelter linens (Fridays, 9-11:00 a.m.)
Speakers Bureau -
Make presentations to community groups based upon script provided (morning, afternoon or evening, according to requests and time availability)
Facility Care & Improvement -
Change out plants in the front garden area on a seasonal basis.
Paint the inside or outside of the shelter facility.
Decorate the shelter for a holiday.
Assist with basic maintenance and/or share specialized skills.
Group Activities -
Prepare and serve breakfast on a Saturday or Sunday morning (6:30 - 8 a.m.).
Provide a childrenâs or shelter-wide movie night (with popcorn), game night (with snack) or ice cream sundae party on a Friday or Saturday evening (7:15 - 8:30 p.m.).
Provide a picnic at the park (one block from shelter) on a Friday or Saturday night (6 p.m.).
Provide a Halloween Party, Valentineâs Party for the children.
Provide a field trip for the children on a school vacation day or during the summer.
Invite residents to church festivals and programs.
