Volunteers offer emotional support and practical assistance to patients and families, usually in the patient's home. Duties can include helping with activities of daily living, sitting with the patient, providing reassurance or companionship for patients and families, and always being an attentive and sympathetic listener. Ways to volunteer include direct patient care and family support, administrative in our offices, bereavement, general (errands, yard work, etc.) Volunteers are an important link to the community as Lion Hospice ambassadors. Telling the story of hospice is a vital part of raising the awareness of its ability to give families choices. As volunteers, you are an integral part of a team that works toward offering comfort, dignity and often, simply, the feeling of not being alone. |
