Description:
The Girls Incorporated of Tarrant County inspires all girls to become strong, smart and bold and increases the social competence of girls and boys. Girls Inc. provides after-school and summer childcare for youth ages 5-12. Services include tutoring, prevention program, field trips, snacks, speakers and indoor/outdoor activities. Teen Center services are provided at four junior high schools and one main Teen Center. Services include prevention classes, tutoring, field trips, sports, tae kwon do, crafts and social service projects.

Opportunity:

Girls Inc. Center: • Tutors to assist youth 11 - 17 with homework (flexible schedule) • Group Mentoring • Mentors for college preparation for girls ages 15 - 17 (flexible schedule) • Coaches for sports teams (flexible schedule) Special Events: • Assistance with the Giving Tree at Parks Mall during the months of November and December • Assistance with coordinating the annual National Girls & Women's Sports Day (February 2005) Business Office: • Answering and helping with customers at the front desk during lunch hours Fundraising Events: • Serve as a volunteer for the Strong, Smart and Bold Luncheon • Create, plan, and facilitate a fundraiser/ public awareness event or project, including securing underwriting funds to support it Child Care After-School Program: • Volunteers to come read to the children during homework time Times: during the school year from 4-5pm; any day, any school Requirements: Must have a current T.B. test (within 1 year), City Crime Check and State Crime Check. Must also meet with Tracy Soliz, Director of Children's Services, to go over some licensing guidelines. Educational Programs: • SAP (Substance Abuse Prevention) facilitators (time commitment of 6 months) Volunteer training is required.
