Caring Companion – Cancer patients often need help around their home with light housekeeping such as vacuuming, lifting laundry baskets and taking out garbage. A Caring Companion would assist with these tasks, and possibly help the client run errands such as picking up medication or grocery shopping. A Caring Companion talks on the phone with the client at least once a week and visits the client every couple of weeks as needed. Care Team – Similar to a Caring Companion, a Care Team would be a group of 3-10 persons assisting a client. A Care Team could also take on a project at a client’s home, such as painting the exterior of a house, yard work, modifying a home for a wheelchair ramp, etc. Care Teams can perform one-time projects or have multiple interactions with a client. Supplement Delivery – Many clients need liquid nutritional supplements to provide needed calories and nutrients during treatment. Volunteers are needed to deliver supplements to clients who are isolated and/or unable to drive to pick up supplements themselves. Volunteers can deliver as often as they like, to specified areas of town, or to the same clients each time. This is a very flexible volunteer opportunity. Special Events Assistants – Every month, Cancer Care Services hosts special events for individuals and families. Examples of special events include dinner parties for clients, pampering parties, National Cancer Survivor’s Day and more. Some special events are held monthly and some are annual; volunteers are needed for both types of events. Office Assistants – Cancer Care Services has filing, data entry and telephone call needs. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasionally, there is work that can be taken home. Mailing Assistants – Bulk mailings are sent to clients and/or donors. Assistance is needed with labeling, sealing, stamping and sorting. Handyman – Assist with cleaning and repairing of medical equipment and upkeep of the facility grounds. File Clerk – Maintain the organization of clients and administration files. Copying of forms, making packets for meetings and home visits. Data Entry Clerk – Performs high volume data entry, access and assisting with maintaining information in a computer database. Enter data for envelopes, labels, form letters and correspondence. Detects and corrects errors. Phone Buddy – Weekly calls to one to three clients who live alone.
