Phillip Clements, Associate Director of Bands at UTA since 1994, has taken the title of Director of Bands following the retirement of Ray C. Lichtenwalter. Mr. Clements worked tirelessly as Director of the UTA Marching Band and with the Concert and University Bands, taking them all to new heights. We wish him the best of luck in his new role, and we know he will bring many new and innovative ideas to the overall band program. The new Associate Director of Bands and Director of the Marching Band is a UTA Alumnus - David Clemmer, class of 1996, who recently completed his Master of Arts degree in Music at the University of Oklahoma. David previously served as Associate Director of Bands at Newman Smith High School, and he was also a Marching Technician with UTA in 1995 and 1996. We look forward to seeing and hearing the UTA Marching Band under his leadership. |

UTA Marching Festival Successful Again The 19th Annual UTA Marching Festival was held at Maverick Stadium on October 2. 27 bands participated in this year's contest. Martin High School received the 2004 Grand Champion Award, their fourth consecutive Grand Championship, scoring 88.30 in the Finals show. HUGE thanks go out to Brian Martin, who took over the reins as the Festival Chairman. Thanks also to all the Committee Members who coordinated the major areas of the contest, and to everyone, students and alumni, who contributed their time to the planning and/or coordination of this year's Marching Festival. 2005 will be year 20 for the Marching Festival, and we'd like to make it special. If you'd like to assist, please contact Danny George. |

1987 marked the first UTA Summer Marching Band Camp where the Association hosted the Wednesday Night Pool Party. The tradition entered its 18th year this year as "Pizza By The Pool" took place on August 18. Oasis Pool in Arlington was the site again, and approximately ___ UTA band members enjoyed their snacks and swimming. The Association is proud each year to provide this "minor" but valuable event to commence each fall season.

New Tradition Established at Alumni Rehearsal Since the beginning of Tuesday Night rehearsals of the UTA Marching Band, way back in 1986, the final rehearsal has become the traditional "Alumni Rehearsal," where Band Alumni from multiple generations have attended to support the band and get a preview of the coming show. This year, the tradition was given new, more official life. The Association organized a pre-rehearsal gathering at Bentley's in Arlington for drinks/dinner. After the rehearsal, alumni in attendance joined the band on the field for the Alma Mater to conclude the night. |
