(II) Participation in Campus and Community Activities The organization must have been in attendance at BCC meetings to not only accrue a positive number of bake sale points but also to have shown consistent attendance even after attaining points necessary to satisfy the requirements for holding a bake sale. (Only organizations that maintain positive point status and the end of the current semester will be granted points in this field) The organization must also demonstrate compliance with the Bake Sale Agreement at fundraising initiatives approved by the BCC. In addition, the organization’s efforts to contribute to campus and community activity will be considered. Please provide examples and dates of events/activities in which the organization has engaged during the semester that promoted its campus and community involvement. Evaluation: To evaluate this, 3 sub-categories will be used: 1) Involvement with the community, 2) involvement with campus activities, and 3) involvement with the BCC specifically. In the event that an activity satisfies multiple categories, the organization may only choose one category. The same event may not be used twice. For example, if the organization helps with polling during the student elections for the BCC, that event can be used under either category 2 (involvement with campus activities) or category 3 (involvement with the BCC), but not under both. Points will be allotted as follows: 5 points awarded for an event that successfully satisfies community involvement, 10 points awarded for an event that successfully satisfies campus activities involvement, and 15 points awarded for an event that successfully satisfies BCC involvement. Total possible points: 30
(III) Awards and Recognition It is not contingent upon the organization’s prior receipt of awards of any kind to determine eligibility for the BCC award. However, the BCC will certainly take into consideration the careful considerations, deliberations and good judgment of other governing bodies who have decided to laud services and accomplishments featured by the organization in question. Please include information about awards and recognitions earned not only from individuals, organizations, media, departments and colleges at UTA, but also your regional or national chapter (if applicable) and community recognition (if applicable). Evaluation: The BCC will determine the eligibility and acceptability of such awards and recognition. One award, recognized circumstance, or letter of recommendation will be accepted and, based on suitability, will be allotted points up to a maximum of 15 points. Only one award per organization will be considered. Total possible points: 15
(IV) Purposeful ActivityThe organization shall be evaluated on its performance of providing services, programs, and information to its members in the interest of fostering an ambiance of academic success and preparation for students’ careers and futures. Please include information about programs, publications, or advocacy of policy change that the organization has taken part in during the current semester. Examples may include, but are not limited to: academic programs (tutoring services, lectures), job-hunting or career services (résumé critiquing, interviewing skills), opportunities for professional development (certification programs, training and continuing education, job shadowing or internship opportunities made available to members), and professional guest speakers. Evaluation: Points will be allotted as follows: 7 points for each event, to a maximum of 5 events, which fulfills the above requirements. Also, no more than 2 professional guest speaker events will be accepted that have been presented by UTA faculty, staff or administration. Total possible points: 35 GuidelinesThe manner in which the award amount may be spent is conditional with the guidelines of UTA scholarship/award recipient spending and the following: 1. The organization may choose to use the monetary award towards operations that further the organization professionally, which include, but are not limited too: professional business trips, business gatherings, accommodations for professional guest speakers, and seminars and classes. Examples of unacceptable award spending include: purchase of alcohol/tobacco, spending on recreational events, and renting/spending of space for social parties. 2. The organization may opt to reward its members by awarding the funds from the COBA Student Organization Award to its currently UTA-enrolled active members. In this case, the amount(s) the organization awards to its member(s) is solely dependent on the organization. 3. In the best interest of each COBA organization, no one (1) organization may win twice per academic year. No award will be given for summer semesters. 4. For the purposes of timely evaluation, each organization must submit all documentation and applications by the established date. Documentation and/or applications after that date will not be considered. All applications must be in the BCC office by the deadline date/time. 5. Only completed applications will be considered. Any falsified information will disqualify the organization for consideration and will be reported to the Office of the Dean of Business.
6. The winning organization will be notified and announced during the appropriate BCC General Body Meeting. Awards will be presented at the beginning of the next semester.
Note: Information contained in this document is subject to change with approval from the BCC and the Office of the Dean of Business. Immediate notice will be given to all organizations in such instances.
