Kappa Delta Chi was established at TexasTechUniversity
on April 6th, 1987, by four young ladies. Irene Montoya, Cynthia
Garza-Fleitman, Nellie Flores-Ledesma, and Melissa Montoya had a dream to
create a service organization in order to give back to the minority community
and to be supportive of each
other with their everyday struggles. They wanted to incorporate into this
organization the values of Unity, Honesty, Integrity, and Leadership along
with their strong dedication to the Lord. Our Four Founders took their dream
to Marlene Hernandez, the Assistant Dean of New Students, who agreed to
become the first Advisor for Kappa Delta Chi.
The Founders enlisted the aid of ten
women to help promote the ideals and philosophy of the sorority to other Hispanic
women. These ten women are known as the Charter members of Kappa Delta Chi.
They are as follows:
Rocio Briseno, Christella Rivera, Dahlia
Cavazos, Suzanna Cisneros, Doris Mendiola, Theresa Reyes, Carline Soto,
Melissa Chavez, Mary Garza, and Maria Pando
Kappa Delta Chi became a nationally
recognized sorority with the induction of the first chapter outside of Texas in 1991. Over
the years, Kappa Delta Chi has grown to include women of various ethnicity
and cultures. Our sorority is inducting new chapters every year throughout
the country. All with the common premise of joining Kappa Delta Chi for the
scholastic and ethical standards that has cultivated and encouraged. These
are the standards that our sisters emanate through sisterly friendship and servitude
to each other and to those around us.
Due to this national expansion, Kappa
Delta Chi recognized the need to collaborate with other Latino-based Greek
organizations and consequently joined recognized as a service-based, nonprofit
corporation by the State of Texas
on September 25, 1997. Subsequently, our sisterhood has become known as Kappa
Delta Chi Sorority, Inc.
