The 3rd Annual Psychology Convention will be held
at UTA on Saturday, Feb. 19. The event will be free and open to the
public. Morning activities will include poster and paper
presentation sessions on psychological research. Afternoon sessions
will feature keynote addresses by Dr. Robert Gatchel and Dr. Sharon
Ramey. Dr. Gatchel is the UTA Psychology Department Chair and
Director of the Center of Pain Management at UT Southwestern. Dr.
Gatchel is an author or editor
of over 22 books and 300 journal articles or book chapters in the
field of health, pain psychology, and psychosomatic disorders. He
will be speaking on the "The Expanding Field of Clinical Health
Psychology".
Dr. Sharon Ramey is founding Director of The
Georgetown Center on Health and Education of Georgetown University.
Her recent parenting books, "Right from Birth: Building Your
Child’s Foundation for Life" and "Going to School: How
to Help Your Child Succeed", have received National Parenting
Book Gold Awards, and are the basis for two highly acclaimed public
television series named after each of the books. She was also one of
the designers of the Head Start program and continues to support the
program with landmark research. She will be speaking on Role of
Psychology in Promoting the Well-Being of Children and Families.
Presenters may begin setting up 8:00 AM in the
Guadelupe Room located on the second floor of the UTA University
Center. The Convention will begin at 9:00 AM. The keynote speeches
are scheduled to start at 2:00 PM in the Rio Grande Ballroom also
located on the second floor.
The event is funded in part by the National Council of
Psi Chi, UTA Psi Chi, The UTA Psychology Society and the UTA
Psychology Department.
