Constitution
of Article I : PurposeSection A: The Science Constituency Council is to function as an intermediary body between the students and faculty in the College of Science. This Constituent Council is organized to provide students the ability to bring their views on matters, which affect them to the attention of the University’s administration. The Constituent Council is to receive student views freely and to act at all times in the best interest of the students, the faculty, and the University. Article IISection A: The Constituency Council shall be composed of 6 representatives from each of the departments of the College of Science; unless not all the departments are present then the representative is based on the interest of each individual. Each representative shall have one (1) vote.
Section B: To qualify as a representative, a student must:
Section C: The Council shall elect a person who meets all qualifications to fill the position, a simple majority vote being necessary for approval. Section D: In the event of the resignation of a non-office holding representative, the post shall be considered vacant and shall be filled according to Article II, Section C. Section E: Any member may be removed from membership in the Council by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the total membership, provided notice is given to the member being removed no later than one (1) week prior to the vote on removal. Section F: Any member having three (3) unexcused absences shall be dropped from the Council. This decision may be appealed to the executive committee. Article III : OfficersSection A: Internal organization of the Council shall consist of a President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Public Relations, and Webmaster; this shall comprise the executive committee. Committees shall be created and filled by the President as the need for them arises. Section B: To be eligible for the Office of President, a student must have served as a member of the Council a minimum of four (4) months at the time of installation. Section C: A majority vote shall be necessary for the election of an officer. Elections shall take place at the end of the Spring Semester. The Council shall decide on the exact date. There must be at least two (2) weeks between the scheduling of the date and the election. Section D: In the event of the resignation of an officer, a person who meets all qualifications for membership and for the office shall be elected by a simple majority vote. Section E: An officer may be removed from the office by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the total membership of the Council, provided notice is given to the officer being removed no later than one (1) week prior to the vote on removal. Termination is determined by: 1. not attending bi-monthly meetings and officers’ meetings unless prior notice of an excuse is given to the Council 2. not performing his or her task according to the requirements of the Council 3. his or her discriminatory behavior The removal of the officer will be disclosed to the Student Governance’s Office. Article IVSection A: The sponsor of the Science Constituency Council shall be the Dean of the College of Science or a faculty member of the College of Science. Section B: The Constituency Council shall meet bi-monthly, every second and fourth Friday. The officers’ meetings are held every first and third Friday of the month. Section C: The Constitution may be amended by a two-thirds (2/3) vote of the total membership of the Council. Section D: Robert’s Rules of Order, revised shall be the official rules of the procedure where the rules are not stated in the Constitution.
