Accolades & Honors
- Two staff members from Apartment & Residence Life received awards from the Association of College and University Housing Officers—International.
- Eric Neilson, Apartment Life area coordinator won Best Program at the ACUHO-I Apartments Conference. He presented on “The Real Life”, discussing the utilization of new means of communication such as MySpace, Facebook, internet, and text messaging to communicate effectively with students.
- Molly Albart, director of Apartment Life, held a roundtable discussion on pets in apartments that won second place at the same conference.
- Mardie T. Sorensen, assistant vice president for Student Affairs received the Mid-level Student Affairs Professional Award from the Texas Association of College & University Student Personnel Administrators for her outstanding contribution in innovative and responsive services and programs that address the varied and emerging needs of students.
- Jake Hayes, coordinator for Student Affairs and New Maverick Orientation was named New Professional of the Year by the National Orientation Directors Association in 2008.
Department & Program Distinctions
- Multicultural Affairs was recognized by Inroads with the Zeb Strong MVP Award for being an outstanding Inroads supporter and advocate. In addition, UT Arlington students did quite well and won in each of the three biggest student recognition categories: Chad Collier, Intern of the Year; Alana Solomon, New Intern of the Year; Steven Medina, Mark of Excellence Award.
- Greek Life was proud to win a grant for their Greek 101 series from the Kristin’s Story Foundation.
- The Freshmen Leaders on Campus’ Tent of Hope was placed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in November 2008.
