Frank R. Lamas, Ph.D.
Biographical Profile
Frank R. Lamas joined The University of Texas at Arlington as vice president for student affairs during the summer of 2005. In this role, he is responsible for coordinating and managing the resources of the division to meet the needs of UT Arlington’s students and community. He oversees the areas of New Maverick Orientation, Student Publications, Disability Services, Student Activities, Student Conduct, Legal Services, Student Governance & Organizations, Multicultural Affairs, Campus Recreation, Apartment & Residence Life, Greek Life & University Events, Student Leadership Center, Intramurals, Club Sports, Relationship Violence Prevention, Wheelchair Athletics, and Parent & Family Center. He administers a budget of approximately $6.2 million and a division of over 80 staff members. UT Arlington has approximately 25,000 undergraduate and graduate students.
Prior to arriving at The University of Texas at Arlington, Dr. Lamas had served as an administrator at the Rochester Institute of Technology in New York State for over ten years. He served initially as assistant vice president for student affairs, later assuming the roles of associate vice president and interim vice president leading a comprehensive student affairs division on a campus of 20,000 students. As a senior student affairs officer, he was responsible for overseeing Campus Life, Leadership and Volunteer Center, Intercollegiate Athletics, Campus Recreation, Wellness, Religious Life, Residence Life, Daycare Center, Student Affairs Development Initiatives, Greek Life, Student Union, student support services and student life engagement programs while addressing critical student and university issues.
He also served as an assistant professor at Canisius College in the Department of College Student Personnel and Higher Education in the College of Education from 1997-2001.
Earlier in his career, Dr. Lamas was the associate dean for student affairs at McDaniel College for four years. Other professional positions he has held are executive assistant for the vice president for student affairs and director of judicial administration at Ithaca College, director of housing and residence life at Youngstown State University, and assistant to the dean and residence hall director at the State University of New York at Oneonta.
Dr. Lamas received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Potsdam, a Master of Science degree from the State University of New York at Albany and the Ph.D. from the State University of New York at Albany in educational administration and policy studies with a concentration on higher education administration.
Dr. Lamas is involved in a number of state, regional and national professional organizations. Among his honors are Phi Kappa Phi, 2007; Golden Key Honor Society, fall 2005; UT Arlington Campus Kahuna Award, 2005; RIT Student Government Extra Mile Award, spring 2005; RIT Commission for Promoting Pluralism Diversity Trailblazer Award, spring 2005; induction into the Order of Omega, 2005 and 2008; Delta Phi Epsilon Leadership Award, 2001; NASPA Exemplary Program Award, 2000; Student Government Distinguished Administrator 1998-99; and McDaniel College Distinguished Service Award, 1990-94.
