Brazos House Resident

Kelly Redman

I've lived in Brazos for the past 2.5 years, and through that time I have met many wonderful people because BRAZOS IS AWESOME! I am drawn to the building because of the small community and the family-like atmosphere. This is particularly good because I am from Illinois, and only my sister and I go to school here in Texas – this building and the people here are an extension of my family. I like the fact that you can be up at 4am doing homework, and someone will stay up with you to help make it through the night. No matter what time of day you can find someone here who is willing to talk. As I graduate in December of 2007, I leave UTA with many wonderful memories of my experiences and life in the 55 room mansion known as Brazos House.

We strive to promote safety and awareness for on-campus residents. Apartment & Residence Life works closely with the UTA Police Department, the Fire Marshal and other safety areas to educate and inform students about safe living practices.

A few examples of the safety measures offered to our residents are:

The Great Escape – This program isn’t your familiar fire drill, but rather a vivid simulation and training session on how to survive in the event of a fire.

Operation Identification – This is a free bicycle theft prevention service. A student’s bicycle can be engraved and registered with the Police Department increasing the likelihood of it being found if lost or stolen.

Campus Crime Watch – Modeled after the nationwide Neighborhood Crime Watch, this program promotes on-campus community awareness about crime and how to prevent and report it.

Safety on Campus – The Office of Student Success Programs offers a directory of safety resources at the University.

Shuttle Services – If you do not have a car, UT Arlington provides Shuttle Services to get you around campus. The on-campus shuttle service is free to all students and runs Monday-Friday during the day. The campus Escort Service provides free rides to students in the evenings until 1:00 a.m. The Mav Mover, shuttle bus, provides transportation on Saturdays to several off campus locations for a $2.00 fee. The shuttle schedule includes stops at the Parks Mall and Wal-Mart on South Cooper Street.
