Tailgating Policy

Rules and Regulations
Tailgating is for personal entertainment and non-commercial purposes. It is permitted at the designated lots on game days. The University may revoke the tailgating privileges of those who do not comply.

Permitted Locations

  • Lot 55 (for basketball and volleyball tailgating)
  • The Green at the College Park Center (basketball and volleyball)
  • Lot 46 (for overflow tailgating on weekend and for basketball/volleyball)
  • Lots 25 and 26 (softball and baseball)
  • Berm at the softball field

No tailgating is allowed on campus sidewalks, intramural fields, student residential areas, parking garages, and landscaped areas that are not designated as tailgating space. Alcohol from tailgating is not permitted inside of the College Park Center or Clay Gould Ballpark.

Times
All tailgating and setup (including construction of tents and awnings) needs to begin two hours prior to game time and must end one hour after the game.

Food, Beverage, Alcohol, and Tobacco Use

  • UT Arlington is a tobacco-free campus. The use of all tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco, is prohibited at all times.
  • State alcohol laws are enforced. The procession or consumption of alcohol by those under 21 is prohibited. Driving under the influence is illegal.
  • Beverages must be consumed from unmarked, non-transparent plastic or paper cups­–no glasses or cans.
  • Mass quantities of alcohol–including, but not limited to, kegs–are prohibited.
  • Open containers of alcohol must not leave the designated tailgating areas.
  • Open flame fires, including fire pits, are prohibited in all tailgating locations. Propane and charcoal grills are permitted. Hot coals must be disposed of using the existing trash/recycling units provided by the University.
  • Food and beverages must be for personal consumption only. The sale of food and beverages if prohibited.
  • Tailgaters must dispose of all trash by using the existing trash/recycling units provided by the University.

Vehicles and Roadways

  • Only licensed motor vehicles may be used on campus streets. Non-University ATVs, personal tractors (on- or off-road), non-licensed University vehicles, golf carts or any off-road vehicles are not allowed on campus.
  • Roadways, sidewalks, and parking spaces may not be blocked unless sanctioned by University officials.
  • All vehicles and trailers may not drive or park on the grass.

Tents and Awnings

Tents must be secured with water ballasts, concrete blocks, or similar anchor weights. Stakes may not be used to anchor any tent or awning, nor may they be chained to landscaping or signs. Items that are set up outside of these specifications or that collapse will be removed by the University at the owner’s expense. Facilities and Generators
Connecting to University utilities and/or television or communication cable services is prohibited.

Signage, Banners, and Solicitation

  • Internal: Any UT Arlington banners or signage that are to be printed and posted by students, faculty, and staff must be reviewed and approved by the Office of Student Governance prior to posting. Please contact the office at 817-272-2293 for information. Greek organizations can bring and set up Greek letters in the approved tailgating locations.
  • External: Commercial banners, signage, and other promotion materials may not be displayed or distributed without prior approval. Contact the UT Arlington Department of Athletics at 817-272-5706 for more information on the approval process.
  • Political: Signage regarding political candidates or issues by not be displayed at tailgating locations. Political materials may not be distributed on game day unless a space reservation for such purpose has been obtained from the University. For information on this, please contact Student Governance at 817-272-2293.
  • Solicitation: Solicitation is not allowed on the UT Arlington campus without a permit. The sale of items on game day is prohibited unless prior approval has been granted by the Department of Athletics.

Disciplinary Actions

  • Students must uphold the Code of Student Rights and Responsibilities, as well as the local, state, and federal laws.
  • Tailgaters who violate laws or regulations will be asked to leave University property and will be subject to ticketing by the UT Arlington Police Department.
  • Tailgaters are expected to respect the safety and enjoyment of others. Disorderly or abusive behavior may result in an individual or individuals being asked to leave University property.
  • Tailgaters may not interfere with University functions or University-sponsored activities, but not limited to, studying, teaching, research, University administration, or fire, police, or emergency services.

Damages

UT Arlington is not responsibly or liable for accidents, damage, loss, or personal property. Any person damaging University property is responsible for the total cost of repairs or replacement.
