To raise awareness about the crisis in Darfur, and to inspire the students faculty and staff of The University of Texas at Arlington to help bring an end to this genocide.

FLOC (Freshmen Leaders On Campus) Program on Darfur
Program Description: The FLOC program on Darfur will be a month long endeavor, March 3 through April 3, to call the attention of the UT Arlington Community to the serious crisis in Darfur.
Documentary Film: The Devil Came on Horseback

The award winning 90-minute documentary film,
The Devil Came on Horseback*
will be shown, followed by a short reflection and discussion session led by Robert and Paulette Cooper of the Dallas Peace Center.

The panel will be moderated by Dr. Rick Halperin, director of the Human Rights Department at SMU. Panelists will include:

Victoria Smith, a human rights activist who has worked in Chad refugee camps twice during the past year

A refugee from Darfur
Following the events there will be displays in the Nedderman foyer of pictures taken in the refugee camps, actions that individuals may take, and information from human rights organizations.
Service Projects:

Tents of Hope: The U T Arlington community, including student organizations and University departments, will join in painting a Tent of Hope. The mission of the Tents of Hope project is to support a one-year process in which people respond as communities to the crisis in Darfur, Sudan. The UT Arlington Tent of Hope will hopefully be included among the tents displayed on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. in the October of 2008, with other tents from communities around the country. Eighty-nine cities, including San Antonio and Austin, currently have Tents of Hope projects in progress.
