- How To Get Involved
-
Participation in University Committees is an under utilized tool for student input in university policy. UT Arlington is the exception, not the rule in soliciting student involvement in matters governing their institution. We were the first university to create an all Student Service Fee Advisory Committee (SSFAC) in the state of Texas. Our example has since become law.
Graduate Student Senators are appointed to over twenty university-wide and internal committees. The committees range in purpose from academics to law enforcement. Senators may select a committee that fits their particular area of expertise. This allows Senators to serve the community in the best possible manner. Also, the diversity of committees allows Senators to participate in areas outside their field of study if they so choose.
Serving on a committee insures Senators the opportunity to view the inner workings of the university and allows direct contribution to university growth. Senator involvement also insures the needs and concerns of Graduate Students are expressed to the University.
Recommendations for the allocation of fees, selection of The Shorthorn Editor, oustanding student leaders and professors, as well as periodic meetings with the University President and Vice President for Student Affairs, are just some of the opportunities university committees offer Graduate Student Senators.
