What is the E2C2 Club?

The Double-E Creative Circuits Club is a special organization for first and second year EE students who have not taken lab-oriented engineering or physics courses.  This Club is sponsored by the Electrical Engineering Department, the UTA Student Branch of the IEEE, and the Electrical Engineering Honor Society, Eta Kappa Nu.  The primary objective of this Club is to introduce beginning EE students to the fun part of electrical engineering and to develop important engineering skills through hands-on projects.  Club members are offered a unique opportunity in a professional yet low pressure lab setting to build, experiment, investigate, tinker, explore, and even design a wide variety electronic circuits.

Interesting and challenging circuit projects are provided to the club members in kit form.  Components and parts are also be available to members who wish to design their own circuit projects.  Circuits in kit form involve engineering skills ranging from very basic to more sophisticated.  Examples of kits requiring basic skills include -

·        Electronic Timers

·        Alarms

·        Voice Activated Switch

·        Digital Thermometer

·        Shortwave Receiver.

For Club members with advanced knowledge of electronics, the following kits are available -

·        Car Alarms

·        Digital Tachometer

·        Motion Detector

·        Digital Clocks

·        Logic Probe

·        Lego® Robotics.

Click here for sample pictures of some interesting electronic kits.

Lab personnel are on-site to assist Club members in designing their own circuits.  Members are encouraged to work with the lab technicians and lab TAs on specific design issues and on the ordering of components for their projects.

In addition to having lots of fun building electronic circuits and gadgets, members will learn through informal, laid-back lectures and discussions many important electrical engineering how to’s such as -

·        how to read resistor and capacitor color codes

·        how to read and interpret component data sheets

·        how to solder components and develop good soldering techniques

·        how to build electronic circuits on circuit boards

·        how to use proper and effective wiring techniques

·        how to use breadboards to design circuits

·        how to use test equipment to perform measurements

·        how to troubleshoot circuits for errors and mistakes

·        how to put together and maintain well-stocked hardware and software tool kits

·        how to correctly bias transistors and op-amps.

 When does the Club meet?

The Club is scheduled to meet from 1:00pm to 3:00pm on the first and third Fridays of each month.    Meetings will not be scheduled for the weeks before and during semester finals.  In addition to the regularly scheduled meetings, open lab rules apply such that members are allowed access to the lab Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 5:00pm if a TA or a professor is in the lab, and if there are no scheduled labs in progress. Click Here for the complete Calendar.

Where does it meet?

Club meetings are held in the Microprocessor Lab in room 148 Nedderman Hall.  The lab is completely and fully stocked with all necessary tools, components, and equipment any electrical engineer will ever need.

 Who is eligible to join?

Membership in the Double-E Creative Circuits Club is free, completely voluntary, and open to all freshman and sophomore Electrical Engineering majors.  However, it is recommended that once you have joined, you must commit to maintain your membership and to attend the scheduled meetings for at least two semesters.

 How do I sign up?

Signing up for the Club is the easy part.  Simply fill out the downloadable application form here and turn it in to one of the lab techs (Mr. Stan Howard or Mr. Randall Clements) in room 148 Nedderman Hall.  Or, if you prefer an internet experience, to fill out and submit the application form on-line Click Here. Or, if you prefer neither of the above, attend the Club’s first informal meeting (see below) and we’ll fill out the form for you.
