After the club's founding in 2008 the Aero Mavericks traveled to Culpeper, Virginia yearly for the Battle of the Rockets competition. The team competed in three different throughout the years: Astro-Egg Lander, Target Altitude, and Planetary Rover.
The goal of the target altitude event is to design and launch a rocket to a given specific apogee altitude, as precisely as possible. The team placed 1st in this event in 2009 and 2013.
The goal of the planetary rover event is to design and launch a rocket and rover system to a spacific altitude to deploy a fully autonomous rover at apogee capable of safely descending and then successfully completing a predesignated group course. The team placed 1st in this event in 2011 and 2013.
The goal of the Astro-Egg Lander is to design and launch a rocket/lander system to a specific altitude then deploy a lander for an egg to safely descend from apogee without the use of parachutes.
