College Republicans is the nation's oldest, largest, and most active youth political organization. Founded in 1892, there are currently over 250,000 CR's around the country on 1,800+ campuses in every state and DC.

Every year, CR's from all across America come together to help elect Republican candidates, support the Republican agenda, and become the future leaders of the conservative movement. College Republicans are the grassroots arm of the Republican Party – the counterbalance to the unions and leftist interest groups.

Our national organization runs three cornerstone programs: our Field Program sends full-time representatives to recruit, train, register, and mobilize our membership nationwide, our Wildfire activism program engages students in social-mobilization efforts to capture our demographic's energy online, and a sophisticated training program to ensure we are always on the cutting edge.

Of course, College Republicans needs your help to continue building on our success, sign-up or donate to keep us going!

GLOBAL WARMING

by Andrew Canfield

The hysteria that has unfolded regarding “global warming” over the last several years has been quite revealing about the current state of the Democratic Party and the Left in the United States. Until recently the whole thing had been mildly amusing; watching Al Gore make a fool of himself with a “documentary” chock full of enough fallacies to make Michael Moore blush was slightly entertaining.

However, the Democrats have once again proven that when a lie is repeated enough one begins to believe it. What once was only bought into by the environmentalist crowd began to be accepted by the Democratic party as a whole. The completely irrational and alarmist nonsense spewed by the lunatic Al Gore leaked into the liberal water system and began to spread like a sickness throughout a once proud party.

Buoyed by this, the environmentalist crazies have realized the time is ripe to begin to begin pushing legislation down American’s throats to stop “pending crisis” of “global warming” But it might surprise some that their agenda has nothing to do with the weather. In fact, the motives of the Greenpeace crowd and modern day Democratic party in pushing initiatives designed to prevent “global warming” is rooted in a hatred for capitalism and American entrepreneurship. Like the feminists who take out their anger about not being asked to the senior prom on every nameless man the rest of their lives, the marginally-nuts outcasts propelling the climate change legislation desire nothing more than to hurt American businesses. The low esteem they hold the United States in is quite evident, because after all these are the same people who sought to bring about the defeat of American in Vietnam and now actively seek to cause America to fail to in Iraq. They carry a chip on their shoulder towards a country that has blessed them so tremendously and want to settle the score by using the false notion of “global warming” to curb American productivity.

Under the guise of good intentions America is now unable to drill its vast reserves of oil on her own soil; clean nuclear power plants are not able to built; taxes on American businesses are raised to a confiscatory level; the list goes on for pages. Lacking a religion of their own, the global warming believers now offer tithes and offerings in the form of “Carbon credits” and want the American people to pay for their environmental sins through higher taxes and a foregoing of luxuries like, let’s say, flying in a plane or driving an SUV.
Thanks to the voice this once-marginalized crowd has been given by the Democratic party, America’s economic security is now being threatened. The only way to turn this around is for those in this country still blessed with common sense to realize that we can not allow our policies to be dictated by faulty science espoused by individuals with malicious goals in mind. For those of us who have a religion that does not consist of hating capitalism and free markets, it is time to stand up and challenge the childish calls for action to be taken towards a manufactured crisis. Those who wrap their whole lives up worrying about a drop of oil on a seal or a tree being cut down while 1.2 million children are slaughtered in their mother’s wombs in America each year need to realize the futility of their cause. Devoting one’s life to fixing a crisis that exists only in the mind is nothing short of a monumental waste of time.

WHAT HYPOCRISY?

by Jason Jordan

So do you think the US has a double standard for allowing Israel to possess nuclear weapons while threatening Iran not to acquire them? There is indeed a standard…but it’s the same standard. The US allows many nations to acquire nuclear weapons, provided they are stable, non-belligerent nations. India and Pakistan were never threatened by the US, although no one was happy about it. North Korea and Iran obviously are a different story.

No comparison exists between Israel and Iran here. Iran has for almost thirty years sought the destruction of Israel. It has funded and supplied terrorist groups such as Hamas and Hezbollah to aid their war effort against the Jewish state. It has publicly announced its intentions to someday obliterate Israel. And it has sought to undermine Israel in every area possible in the world arena. Israel on the other hand has never made any such statements, or acted in a way to convey such intentions. Despite its violent history, Israel is not an aggressive nation. Defense, not offense, is the essence of its policies. Nuclear weapons have been in Israel’s arsenal since the 1960’s, yet they have never waved them around or used them for leverage. Even in the early days of the Yom Kippur War in 1973, when Israel was verge of being wiped out, a nuclear attack was never put on the table. Their weapons are for deterrence, not attack, and even when times are dark they still are not used.

It is not a matter of perspective. Ahmadinejad is an unhinged genocidal lunatic bent on destruction. There is no reason Iran should say they feel threatened by Israel when they have been the ones making the threats. When has Israel made war? When every surrounding nation invades? When Egypt cut off strategic trade routes and waves guns around? When Egypt and Syria mass troops on Israel’s border? When terrorists rain rockets down on Israeli towns and blow up shopping centers full of civilians? Is Israel an aggressive nation that poses a threat to Iran? I think not. The Israelis would be more than happy to be able to live their lives without the threat of war and annihilation hanging over their heads. They would love the opportunity to live peacefully with their neighbors. People who say Iran has a right to arm itself for defense against Israel do not know what they are talking about. Israel fights only when provoked. Iran, on the other hand, is dreaming of the day when Tel Aviv or Haifa are wiped off the map.

So you tell me, why should threatening, hateful, aggressive Iran have to right to acquire nuclear weapons to “defend” itself from Israel, when Israel should be the one arming itself to defend against Iran? Critics say that Israel is prepared to go to any level, even a nuclear strike, to stop Iran’s weapon program. And indeed why shouldn’t they? Is the tens of millions of Jewish people murdered in the last centuries not enough to give them the right to defend themselves? The answer to the standard question becomes this: nations can arm themselves, provided they do not have hostile intentions. No one has the right to call Israel a threat, especially when they do all the threatening.

THE MYTH OF AMERICAN GUILT

by Jason Jordan

One thing that I am beginning to hear constantly and never ceases to irritate me is that America is to blame for the spread of terrorism throughout the world. The people who say this know very little, if anything, about our new enemy, the Jihadists. When I say “our”, I refer to not just Americans but all the people of the world who believe in freedom. It is not just America that is under attack, but also many, if not all, countries in Europe, Asia, and Africa. The naivety of our populace is going to lead to a very dark future, so I take it upon myself to try and educate at least a few people.

Our foreign policies are often cited as a legitimate casus belli for the terrorists. Granted that many things we do indeed anger the world, however, the only terrorists who have spawned originate mainly in the Islamic world. This is no fluke. Hundreds of Jihadist attacks we never hear about are directed toward other countries who are isolationist. Capitalism and our materialistic lifestyle has also been blamed. This is closer to being the cause than our policies but because we are a people of this world and not the next. Our economic system is said by critics to be based on “ripping off the little guy”. Strangely enough this if mostly spouted by people touting some form of Marxism which of course rips off everybody. However capitalism is not the root either. Left-wing terrorists have mostly disappeared from the US. The true reason is so simple that many people refuse to accept it. The Jihadists seek to impose a world governed by Sharia in its most fundamental sense. The word “Jihad” comes from “Jihada” which means struggle. Modernist Muslims will tell you it means a struggle to improve yourself. Unfortunately what they say makes no difference to the terrorists, who define it as a holy war to eliminate all other religions. This is printed in Arab and Palestinian schoolbooks, broadcasted on their TV stations, and preached by their extremist clerics. In order to understand fully the situation you need to know the history of Islamic extremism.

The extremist movement began in the 1950’s when Egypt was beginning to modernize. Many people saw their religion being tainted with Western values. When a man named Sayyid Qutb came to America for his college education, he saw many problems here that also exist in every country. Yet he believed that they originated here. He wrote these things down in several books. Egyptians who were looking for an object to their wrath soon found one when they read Qutb’s works. Western values and modernism , they said, were the reasons behind the breakdown of the Islamic lifestyle. Later a doctor named Ayman al Zawahiri become a devout follower in Qutb’s philosophy. When Qutb was executed for trying to overthrow the Egyptian government, Zawahiri quickly formed the group al Jihad, a more violent successor to the Muslim Brotherhood. Attacks became frequent as extremists sought to expel Westernism from the country. Zawahiri met with several other Jihadist leaders to formulate battle plans. Among them was a construction worker from a very wealthy and influential Saudi Arabian family, Usama bin Laden.
Usama bin Laden became very religious when he was a teenager and despised anything he considered to be un-Muslim. His father, Mohammed bin Laden, was a very prestigious owner and founder of a construction company and his son dreamed of matching his accomplishments. When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan in 1979, bin Laden saw his chance to become a figure like his father, despite having to wait four years to build the courage to go there. Being wealthy, he was able to finance the Mujahedeen fighters. When the Soviet Union withdrew, he had reached his dream. The Afghan’s victory could not have been possible without the covert support of America, acting through the CIA. I now hear people say “well it’s our fault, we created them”, not so. The fighters already existed, we simply helped them defeat the spread of communism, which was number one on our list of things to do at the time. We also saw them as our allies, as they were on the surface. However they were much more radical than we believed and saw us as the lesser of the two evils when put next to the USSR and accepted our help. You have to remember that this was during the Cold War, American policy was Soviet containment and many nations depended on our intervention for their survival. We cannot blame ourselves for the help we gave the future Taliban and al Qa’ida, we could not have known what would happen.

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia was having its own problems with extremists. Before World War II, Saudi Arabia barely existed and was one of the poorest nations in the world. Suddenly oil was discovered and foreign investment flooded into the country. The house of al Saud, the royal family, took most of this money and went on a massive spending spree which still has not stopped. Many Muslims believed the family to have corrupted and extremists soon gained ground in the country. Usama bin Laden was among the dissidents and, despite his family’s close ties with the royal family, earned the wrath of the king. When Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990, Saudi Arabia believed Saddam Hussein’s next target would be them. King Fahd asked the US for assistance and agreed to host their troops. This was the last straw for bin Laden who saw the presence of non-Muslim troops on Saudi soil as not only an insult to Islam but also a direct attack. Since their ragtag group emerged victorious against the colossal might of the Soviet Union, they believed God was on their side and could defeat anyone. With their newfound resolve they turned against the US, which was the driving force behind Western civilization and also the perceived enemy of Islam.

Thus we end up were we are today. The extremists seek a world dominated by Islam, rid of modernism, other religions, and Western values. If you do not believe me simply find some video clips of Palestinian or Arab TV shows, or look at demonstrations being held here, the UK, or France. “Islam will dominate the world!”, “Behead the infidels”, and “Death to America” is what they chant. Radical clerics such as Sheihk Abdel Rahman and Abu Hamza al Masri spread their hate and urge the murder of non-Muslims. In the words of al Masri: “What makes Allah happy? Allah is happy when the kufars [infidels] are killed”. The form of Islam they desire is not the open and peaceful version, they desire a fundamental, violent, and intolerant one. Anyone who disagrees with their line of thinking is at risk of being killed, including fellow Muslims who are then branded as heretics.

The poor conditions also lead to an increase in terrorist recruitment. The poverty and lack of education in the Middle East create a situation where the people can be easily manipulated. Their news networks continuously make ridiculous claims like America is the source of every problem in the Arab world, America seeks the extermination of Islam, or even that Western people have an enthusiasm for drinking blood. Since most people do not take to the idea of conquering the world, they have to be made to believe they are in danger for them to fight. The leaders create a social reality and an image that the Arab world is perfect and America is Satanic induces popularity for people like bin Laden, who is seen as a sort of savior. Our foreign policy is only a cover for the real reasons behind the assault on our country. Children are indoctrinated with hate from the minute they are born and martyrdom is glorified. A five year old Arab kid will tell you that his ultimate desire is to strap on a bomb and kill as many infidels as possible.

It does not matter what America does. We can withdraw every US soldier to American soil, become a UN lapdog, and convert to whatever form of government or economy that is currently in style, the extremists will still attack us until be adopt their views and a black flag flies over the White House. The poor Jews have it even worse, and Jimmy Carter did not do them any favors being saying Israel is an apartheid state. The fact that they have more than once offered the Palestinians their own country and give Arabs full citizenship (while Jews are persona non grata in Arab countries) is irrelevant to them because many Middle Easterners see the Jews as a “cancer that must be exterminated”. In the words of Hassan Nasrallah, leader of Hizbu’llah, “If they all gather in Israel, it will save us the trouble of going after them worldwide.” Israel will be attacked even without the Palestinian dilemma. The Arab world has suffered military defeats against Israel three times, and this is a serious thorn in their side. Many saw Israel’s victory as a sign that God had abandoned them for their abandonment of true Islam. This helped spur the spread of extremism. Our support for Israel obviously increases the image that we are anti-Arab. However, if they are mad because we support Israel, the response to that, in very undiplomatic terms, is tough beans. They cannot dictate to us who to give our support to. Our support of Israel is justified, and though neither the Israelis nor Palestinians have handled the situation that well, Israel is not the side committing terror attacks.

We are starting to face the same situation that the Israelis have for fifty years. We are now a people who are being hunted. This is not a scare tactic, it’s the truth, period. If you still do not grasp the ideology of our enemy, just remember one phrase: Hama Rules. Hama was a city in Syria which was destroyed by the Syrian army in 1982 to quell a rebellion. The population was massacred indiscriminately. This in the way our enemy solves its problems. They do not negotiate; they fight no-holds-barred whatever they see as being different. Its a medieval way of thinking for sure. It is an all too common belief that terrorism is not a real threat and that we have nothing to worry about from it, but I know 3,000 people in New York who would beg to differ. Terrorism did not start with us or President Bush, nor will with stop with us, and if we do not cast off this illusion that we are the problem, stop distracting ourselves with it, and face the simple and harsh truth of the world, we will not last as a country or a culture.
