About Us

Mission:
SHPE changes lives by empowering the Hispanic community to realize its fullest potential and to impact the world through STEM awareness, access, support and development.

Vision:
SHPE's vision is a world where Hispanics are highly valued and influential as the leading innovators, scientists, mathematicians and engineers.

History:
SHPE is the Source for Quality Hispanic Engineers and Technical Talent. The Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) was founded in Los Angeles, California, in 1974 by a group of engineers employed by the city of Los Angeles. Their objective was to form a national organization of professional engineers to serve as role models in the Hispanic community. The concept of Networking was the key basis for the organization. SHPE quickly established two student chapters to begin the network that would grow to encompass the nation as well as reach countries outside the United States. Today, SHPE enjoys a strong but independent network of professional and student chapters throughout the nation.

Why Join ?

What we are about:

Everything we do revolves around our 5 pillars below.

Leadership Development

We strive to be the best version of ourselves, every single day.

Community Outreach

A little help goes a long way and we are always looking to help our communities anyway we can.

Academic Development

We encourage our members to be life long learners and possess an open-mind.

Professional Development

We seek to help our members best prepare for the professional world so they make the most of every opportunity.

Chapter Development

We pride ourselves on being sort of like an extended family and always looking out for one another.

As we look back on 2016. We had the honor to extend our reach to even more future leaders and the good fortune to collaborate with a lot of great organizations and companies in doing so. I for one am tremendously proud of our chapter's efforts in helping change lives.
