In the spring of 2001 a group of women began discussing the possibility of bringing a new Latina sorority to the UT Arlington campus. These women wanted to join a sisterhood that fit their personalities and would help them empower women on their campus. .

On July 22, 2001, they became known as Ladies Uplifting National Aspirations (LUNA).

On November 6, 2001 they were officially recognized as an organization on campus. They participated in numerous community service projects, such as, Cowtown Brush Up, Boo at the Zoo, River Legacy Functions and Hispanic Heritage Month. They also took an active role on campus participating in Ooze ball, Intramural Soccer, and Organization Fairs.

In the spring of 2002, the women sent in their colony petition to nationals. They received colony status on February 23, 2002 at 5:50 p.m.

On December 13, 2002, Sigma Lambda Gamma Colony at the University of Texas at Arlington was named the 63rd chapter, Omicron Beta, of Sigma Lambda Gamma National Sorority Incorporated.
