At the first meeting after the Spring intiation ceremony, we
elected three members to serve as the new UPE student officers
for the upcoming school year:

- Sagar Ashok Tamhane - Vice President / Webmaster
- Gabriel Rodriguez - Secretary / Treasurer

Friday: Salvation Army project
There will be a get-together (not really a formal meeting)
this Friday, May 1, in NH 315, to continue work
on (and hopefully finish) the Salvation Army database project. Any
members who would like to help with the project are welcome to attend!
New UPE Initiates; Upcoming Meeting

We had a very successful Spring Initiation ceremony last Wednesday night.
We welcomed nine new student members into UPE and one new faculty member!
The new initiates, current members, and several faculty and staff guests,
observed a brief ceremony, and then afterwards enjoyed some great food and
conversation.

Meeting this Friday
We are having a meeting this Friday, April 24th in NH 315. All
UPE members are welcome to attend; current officers and new initiates are
especially encouraged to attend, as we will be talking about new officers
for the upcoming school year.
Spring Initiation coming soon

We are planning to have a spring initiation ceremony this April to welcome
new members into UPE. The ceremony will be on April 16th at 8pm, and should
have even more food and fun than the last initiation ceremony :D Further details
will be distributed to potential UPE candidates shortly.
We have also made efforts to be active in community service recently. We
attempted to sign up for the Engineers without borders program, but all upcoming
slots for this semester were already taken! So we were foiled in that nefarious
scheme to help the community, but fortunately we have another in the works.
We solicited requests for technical assistance from the Salvation Army, and
it turns out there are a couple of problems we could help them solve fairly
easily. We are in the process of determining which problem we should tackle,
how we should solve it, etc. We hope to complete this project by the end
of the semester.

UPE has recently been reactivated as a student organization at UTA, and along with our
reactivation we also have a new website! We have an active staff of student officers for
the Spring 2009 semester, and we hope to recruit more motivated and talented officers for the 2009-2010
school year.
