Process for Resolving Complaints

The Office of Student Publications has an open door policy to discuss complaints, concerns and suggestions for improvements. Most complaints can be resolved informally, and anyone concerned with Student Publications policies, processes or staff is encouraged to contact us with any suggestion or concern. Our staff will work with you to try to resolve any concern informally.

Formal complaints about Student Publications policies, processes or staff must be submitted in writing to the Director of Student Publications. Written complaints should be submitted within 10 days of the incident that prompted the complaint and should include the complainant’s name, telephone number and e-mail address. Within three business days of receiving a written complaint, the complainant will be contacted to acknowledge receipt of the complaint, seek more information if needed and explain the complaint resolution process.

For policy and process complaints:
  1. The Director will review the issue with staff person(s) involved.
  2. Results of that meeting will be communicated in writing to the complainant within 10 business days of receipt of the written complaint.
  3. If the complainant wishes to appeal the outcome, he/she may appeal in writing to the Vice President for Student Affairs, who will determine any further action.

For complaints regarding professional staff:
  1. The Director of Student Publications will meet with the staff person involved and make every effort to resolve the issue.
  2. Results of that meeting will be communicated in writing to the complainant within 10 business days of receipt of the written complaint.
  3. If the complainant wishes to appeal the outcome, he/she may appeal in writing to the Vice President for Student Affairs, who will determine any further action.

All issues regarding staff will be considered within UT Arlington personnel policies and procedures.

For complaints regarding student publications:
Formal complaints about any student publication produced under the auspices of the Office of Student Publications must follow processes outlined in the “UTA Student Publications Handbook.” A person wanting to appeal a complaint against any student publication must have addressed himself first to the editor, the editorial adviser and the Student Publications director. The complainant shall file a written complaint with the UTA Student Publications Committee chair.
