Ph.D. Application Procedures

Along with all Graduate School Application Requirements, a complete application includes:

a. Official transcripts from the colleges and universities attended. Information about submitting official transcripts is available from the Graduate Catalog; and

b. Official test score reports for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and, for international applicants, the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Information about submitting official test scores is available from the Graduate Catalog. The ETS code for UTA is 6013. Information about taking these tests is available from the Graduate School; and

c. Three Letters of Recommendation that attest to the applicant’s ability to do doctoral-level work and complete a dissertation. Recommendations must be from those who hold a Ph.D. degree and/or have published articles in major peer-reviewed research forums since they are in the best position to attest to the applicant’s potential to complete a Ph.D. (download Letter of Recommendation form) ; and

d. Essay by applicant approximately one double-spaced page in length (approximately 250 words) outlining applicant’s research agenda, identifying the faculty you wish to work with, and explaining reasons for wanting to earn the doctoral degree. The essay is considered both for its content and writing quality.

Official transcripts and test scores must be sent directly to the Graduate School by the institution and ETS respectively.

It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure all application materials are received by the relevant deadline. Incomplete applications or applications received after the deadline will be deferred.

Once an admission decision is made, you will receive a letter from The UT Arlington Graduate School.

Doctoral programs admit students to begin in Fall semester only. The application deadline for the doctoral programs is February 1 for the following Fall.
