How to Apply
Completed applications are composed of the following:
- Applications. Students must submit an application to the University of Texas at Arlington for admission, and for the Terry Scholarship Program at UTA by February 12, 2019. *The deadline is February 12th, but do not wait until the last minute because you need to allow time for your reference letters to be submitted. The application can be found here. Be sure to save the pdf to your computer, and then edit it. Do not try filling it out through your browser. Please note that if your recommender is from a school district (i.e. ISD email address or similar) our emails asking them for a letter will often end up in their spam due to how those organizations filter email. You may wish to ask them to check their spam folders. Note: The Terry Foundation does not accept applications directly from students; applications must go through the University application process.
- Complete the two essays. The essays are included in the application packet. You can find the prompts here.
- Official transcripts of all high school and college work. The Selection Committee will access your transcripts that you submitted to the Admissions Office. You will not need to upload any transcripts with your application. For information on how to submit a transcript to the Office of Admissions, please visit http://www.uta.edu/admissions/frequent-questions.php
- Two letters of recommendation. Identify two (2) individuals to write letters of recommendation. You will need the name and email addresses for the two people who have agreed to serve as a reference. The application system will automatically email them, have them create an account with UTA's MavScholarShop and then upload their recommendation letters directly in the system. At least one of your letters should be written by one of your core subject teachers (English, math, history, science, language). Both letters should speak to your academic and leadership abilities.
Interview with the Foundation
Terry Scholarships are not awarded without a satisfactory interview. If you are invited to interview for the scholarship, the Foundation will reimburse expenses for candidates traveling from greater than 60 miles from the interview site. Final selections will be made in the week following the interviews, with new Scholars being notified within the month.
All first-year Terry Scholars are required to live on campus. If you are accepted to the program, you must apply for on-campus housing no later than April 20, 2019.
