Academic Standings Guide for Students**

**Note: While this informational site is supported by the University Advising Center, students would seek advisement for their academic issues through the advising process in their major department. If a student is Undeclared, the University Advising Center will provide the advising. The information on this website should not be used as a replacement for the Undergraduate Catalog and proper academic advisement.

All students should thoroughly read the Academic Probation and Dismissal section of the Academic Regulations in the Undergraduate Catalog.

Table of Standards

Total Hours Attempted (including transfer hrs) GPA for Probation (cumulative) GPA for Dismissal (cumulative)
0 – 29 hours less than 2.0 less than 1.6
30-59 hours less than 2.0 less than 1.8
60 or more hours less than 2.0 less than 2.0

Students who fall below the UTA Table of Standards will be placed on probation or warning (as appropriate) and potentially dismissed from the University if the GPA is not raised to meet standards.

Academic Standing Categories

Academic Good Standing

Students who have a 2.0 GPA or above at UT Arlington are considered in good standing and can continue to take courses without penalty. However, it is important to keep in mind that individual departments may have higher GPA thresholds to remain in a particular major, take advanced coursework or even graduate with a degree in that major. Refer to the appropriate school or college in the Academic Programs and Degree Offerings section in the Undergraduate Catalog for these GPA requirements or speak with your academic advisor.

***NOTE: An SSP Appeal is a separate appeal process from an appeal seeking to waive academic dismissals from your academic departments. One appeal does not necessarily impact the results of the other appeal (i.e., receiving a waiver of your academic dismissal does not mean that you will receive your SSP appeal, and likewise, receiving a positive result in your SSP appeal will not ensure a waiver of dismissal from your academic department.). Be sure to follow through with both appeals.
