The University of Texas at Arlington
Office of the President

April 18, 2007

Dear Friends:

Like everyone across the country, I was shocked by the horrific tragedy at Virginia Tech. Universities by our very nature are open, engaged, and active communities. Just as a close-knit town or neighborhood, we can never be completely immune to senseless acts of violence. We know how much our community means to us, and Virginia Tech is part of our higher education community. Our hearts go out to them.

In the wake of this disaster, the UT Arlington community is joining Virginia Tech in mourning by holding a brief memorial ceremony this Friday, April 20 at noon in the Library Mall. We invite you to join us. For more information, please click here.

In addition, we have sent letters to our own students, faculty and staff, reminding them of the myriad of security measures, safety programs, and counseling services available on our campus.

I hope you can join us this Friday; if not in person, certainly in spirit.

Sincerely,

James D. Spaniolo, President
