Computer Skills Placement (CSP) Test

General Information

Beginning with the fall 1999 semester, all UT Arlington undergraduate students must satisfy a computer proficiency requirement in one of two ways:

  • Completion of a course designated by the department of their major as satisfactory.

– OR –

  • Successful completion of the Computer Skills Placement test with a score of 64.

CSP (Computer Skills Placement) Test

The Computer Skills Placement test contains 10 multiple-choice questions and performance based items from each of the following skills area:

  • Basic Concepts of Information Technology
  • Using the Computer & Managing Files
  • Word Processing
  • Spreadsheets
  • Databases
  • Presentation
  • Information and Communication

There are a total of 70 questions. A passing score of 64 is required to fulfill the graduation requirement. No course credit will be awarded. There is a 30 day waiting period to re-test.

The test is only available to UT Arlington students.

Testing sessions are given Monday through Friday at 1:00 pm.

CSP Fee

The fee for the Computer Skills Placement Test is $25.00. This exam may be rescheduled one time at no charge if you modify your test date online at least 24 hours in advance. If you attempt to reschedule more than once or call the day of the test, you will lose your entire test fee of $25.00. Your rescheduled exam must be within one year of your original test date.

RE-TEST

You may re-test after a 30 day waiting period.

You may only attempt this test 3 times. If you do not pass on the third try, you must take the computer course designated by your major.

CSP Preparation

You may search for a Microsoft tutorial on the Internet. You will need to know MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access. You will also need to be familiar with computer basics and the internet.

Check in Requirements

Picture ID (government issued) is required. You will not be allowed to take the test with out an ID.

The test administrator is required to verify identification by visually inspecting your identification. Test security procedures mandate the positive identification of examinees prior to admission. The test administrator is required to deny admission to any person who cannot be positively identified.

Score Reports

Once you have successfully completed the test, you will receive your score and your student record will be modified to indicate that you have satisfied the computer proficiency requirement. If you have failed the test, you may not take it again for 30 days.

Special Accommodations

If you have a disability requiring special accommodations in taking this examination, contact Testing Services for the “Request for Accommodation.” Please submit the form with your registration. If accommodation is not requested at least 2 weeks in advance, we cannot guarantee the availability of accommodation on-site.
