Placement

The Modern Language department recommends students take a placement test prior to enrolling for certain lower division courses. Modern Language placement tests may be taken in an attempt to earn credit by examination.

The UT Arlington Mathematics department requires placement tests prior to enrolling for certain lower-division courses. The Mathematics department does not award credit by examination on the basis of the Mathematics Placement Test or Calculus Readiness Test. Students who do not plan to register for the courses for which a test is required do not have to take the test.

You may take the Math Placement test M-F from 8:30 am-3:30pm on a walk in basis in the Math Department in Pickard Hall Room 478. There is no charge or reservations needed.

Mathematics Placement

The following guidelines are for first time registration in a course. If you are attempting a course for the second time, you should consult with an advisor in the Math Department to see if you need additional testing or remedial course work.

For questions in regards to your exemption status please contact the Math Department at 817-272-3261.

If you have been admitted to the College of Science or Engineering, you will need to take both the MPT and the CRT tests.

Modern Language Placement

Before registering for French 1441, German 1441, or Spanish 1441, the Modern Language department recommends students who are native speakers and those students who have a background in French, German, or Spanish, including high school classes, to take a CLEP test for that language.

The Foreign Language CLEP test also serves as a basis for credit-by-examination. The specific test score determines the student’s eligibility to receive credit for one to four semesters. Students have the option to choose credit with letter grade or credit without letter grade for credit earned on the basis of the CLEP test. The CLEP tests may be repeated once every six months. Additional credit by examination policies and information are found in the sections below.

The requirement for modern language in a degree plan varies by department at UT Arlington. Students should consult the Undergraduate Catalog and their academic advisor for answers to specific questions.

Test Location and Dates

The CLEP tests are scheduled through UT Arlington Testing Services. Regular test dates are available throughout the school year.

Fees

The fee for the CLEP Subject exam is $70 to CLEP and a separate $20 administration fee to UTA. Fees are subject to change with out notice.
