Biography

An alumna (B.A., political science, Magna Cum Laude, 1980), Sue entered graduate school in the School of Urban and Public Affairs in the early '90's. She was a writer-researcher for "Privatizing Public Education: the Texas Experience," published by the Center for Economic Development Research and Service, The University of Texas at Arlington in 1994 and earned SUPA's first Graduate Certificate in Urban Journalism in May, 2004. Her career includes magazine writing, 15 years as a lifestyle editor and feature writer-columnist for the Star-Telegram and for Belo suburban papers and winning five statewide writing awards in one 18-month period. Sue also worked for the City of Arlington, where she created the city's national award-winning newsletter, as well as an emergency press kit that was adopted internationally. She has anchored two cable television news shows and directed public relations for a nonprofit agency. She lives in Arlington, where she has served on numerous charity and arts boards of directors.

Mission

The mission of the Office of Media Relations at The University of Texas at Arlington is to develop and communicate information regarding the University's academic activities, its community service role, and the achievements of its students, faculty, staff, and alumni to its various internal and external constituencies in order to enhance its position as a comprehensive educational institution.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitating news media relations including writing and distributing news releases and photos, contacting the media regarding UT Arlington faculty and staff who can respond as experts to current events, and fielding requests from the media
  • Maintaining an Experts Guide for the news media
  • Coordinating press conferences
  • Giving speeches regarding UT Arlington on and off campus
  • Providing stories for UT Arlington Magazine
  • Publishing annual, weekly, and specialty calendars of events
