ARLINGTON - The University of Texas at Arlington will host a regional field hearing on the American Planning Association's Rebuilding America initiative from 1:30 to 4:40 p.m. Monday, March 9, in Room 204 of the Architecture Building, 601 W. Nedderman Drive.
Rebuilding America is an initiative working to engage planners, transportation experts, policymakers and engaged citizens in a national conversation about how to address infrastructure crisis and increase investment in building communities of lasting value.
The School of Architecture and the School of Urban and Public Affairs are sponsoring the regional field hearing.
The effort was launched in October 2008 at the National Design Professionals Infrastructure Summit in Washington D.C. Planners, architects, landscape architects and engineers at the summit began a discussion of the state of the nation's infrastructure and heard from experts about options for federal policy and investment. The task force now is conducting a series of regional field hearings convening leaders, planners, issue experts, academics, allied professionals and engaged citizens.
The hearings will focus on identifying major issues of local regional concern related to infrastructure policy and investment. Infrastructure industry experts will discuss these crucial issues facing the West South Central region. They will culminate in the proposal of policy and practice recommendations to be presented at the National Planning Conference in Minneapolis, April 28-29, 2009.
There is no fee to attend the March 9 field hearing but people are encouraged to register online. Those who are unable to attend but would like to comment, may join the online forum or visit the Rebuilding America Web site.
