UT Arlington Wind Symphony features faculty soloist and major symphony

ARLINGTON - The University of Texas Arlington Wind Symphony presents a concert at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 9, at Irons Recital Hall in the Fine Arts Building, 700 Greek Row Drive. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens. High school band directors may obtain free tickets for themselves or their students by contacting the UT Arlington Band Office 817-272-2533 or bandofc@uta.edu.

The concert features faculty member Dennis Bubert performing the Concerto for Bass Trombone by renowned composer Eric Ewazen. Symphony No. 4 by David Maslanka, as well as works by Michael Daugherty and Morten Lauridsen, also are on the program.

Bubert teaches applied trombone, brass class and conducts the trombone choir at UT Arlington. He previously taught at Texas Christian University and the University of North Texas. His former students hold positions in major and regional orchestras, military bands, and schools and universities across the United States. Bubert has been the bass trombonist of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra since 1981. He previously held the same post in the New Mexico Symphony Orchestra and has performed with virtually every major ensemble in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, including the Dallas Symphony Orchestra and the Dallas Opera. He also has played at a number of music festivals in this country and appeared as a recitalist/clinician in the United States and abroad.

The UT Arlington Wind Symphony, conducted by Director of Bands Dr. Douglas Stotter, is made up of the most advanced woodwind, brass and percussion students in the music department. The Wind Symphony presents five concerts during the school year.
