ARLINGTON - The University of Texas at Arlington's surplus equipment will be sold completely online, starting with the current auction. The online auctions are at www.slapsale.com, which handles auctions for other Texas universities and cities.

Previously, the University held live auctions on unneeded items, such as used chairs, lab equipment, books and more.

Each online auction lasts about 14 days with about one auction per month, Julie Sullivan, UT Arlington's director of asset management and receiving, said. The current auction ends Monday, April 13.

Each month may bring a different set of auction items, Sullivan said.

"You never know what we'll have," she said. "Miscellaneous chairs are regular items. We could have lab equipment or bicycles. Right now there is musical equipment, and we don't always have that. The last few auctions have included books."

Books are sold by the pallet and include books the library no longer needs. The pallet is sold without a list of book titles, Sullivan said.

Bidders must register to bid. Payment includes a 10-percent buyer's premium plus sales tax. Payments may be made by credit card, check, cashier's check or wire transfer.

Items can be inspected in person with an appointment; call Basil DeMars, surplus property manager, at 817-272-3012. E-mail questions about auction items to surplus@uta.edu.
