ARLINGTON - The University of Texas at Arlington has created a new program, the Maverick Match, to match dollar-for-dollar gifts of at least $25,000 paid out over no more than five years. The Maverick Match is funded by gas royalty revenues and is designed to encourage donors to create endowments for the university.
The minimum endowment commitments required to establish new endowments for faculty positions, scholarships, and fellowships, among others, will increase Sept.1. Currently, an endowed professorship requires a $100,000 gift. That $100,000 will increase to $250,000 to establish a professorship.
However, through the Maverick Match, a donor can establish a new endowed professorship with a commitment of $125,000, which will be matched by the University to reach the $250,000 funding level.
At the upper end of the scale, a Distinguished University Chair now requires a minimum of $2 million. That minimum will rise to $3 million.
A special opportunity for donors with existing endowments will be available for the remainder of the 2009 calendar year. Matching funds will be available for all new commitments to endowments that are currently less than $25,000, as long as the new funds increase the endowment to $25,000.
Contact the Office of Development at (817) 272-2584 for more information on the Maverick Match and creating an endowment.
