ARLINGTON - Dr. Pamela Jansma has been named dean of the College of Science at The University of Texas at Arlington.
Dr. Jansma has more than two decades of experience in higher education. Her most recent position was as dean of New Mexico State University's College of Arts and Sciences. Previously she worked for the University of Arkansas and the University of Puerto Rico.
Dr. Donald Bobbitt, provost and vice president of academic affairs, called Dr. Jansma a seasoned administrator who is an exceptional teacher and an exceptional researcher.
"Her research has been funded almost continuously during her academic career from the National Science Foundation. She has published some groundbreaking work in the field of microplate tectonics and strain partitioning," Dr. Bobbitt said. "In terms of administrative duties, she has experience at the chair level, at the department level and most recently as the dean of a college of arts and sciences. We are very thrilled to have someone of her considerable talent join the UT Arlington team."
Dr. Jansma joins UT Arlington on Aug. 15 and said she is looking forward to being able to teach and work as an active researcher and scientist.
"UT Arlington is one of the premier universities in the UT System," Dr. Jansma said. "It's a great position because UT Arlington is becoming more and more nationally known. The university has a great team in place to reach that next level of prominence."
Dr. Bobbitt thanked the nine-member selection committee led by Kelsey Downum, senior associate vice president of research.
The College of Science includes biology, chemistry and biochemistry, earth and environmental sciences, mathematics, physics and psychology. The college has 120 tenure or tenure-track faculty members, 2,352 undergraduate majors and 384 graduate majors.
