ARLINGTON - A new one-day course designed to assist business and industry leaders in pandemic planning and to help assure business continuity in the midst of a pandemic will begin Wednesday.
Pandemic Influenza Preparedness is offered by the Region VI Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Education Center at the Division for Enterprise Development at The University of Texas at Arlington.
The course focuses on the reality and potential impact of a pandemic influenza, key elements of pandemic preparedness planning and proactive and realistic strategies to support that planning. The interactive educational session will offer information on strategies to reduce employee exposure and limit the spread of the influenza virus. It also will increase participant's awareness of the many valuable resources available from OSHA and other government agencies. The course was developed by experts from across the country, said Lisa London, executive director at the Division for Enterprise Development.
"With the specter of H1N1 looming, we wanted to be proactive and take the lead on the development of OSHA's seminar," London said. "This is the pilot presentation including participants from industry, education, and government. We have scheduled public courses over the next three months."
OSHA classes are listed on www.uta.edu/ded. The pilot class, which is closed, will be from 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. in Room E200F at the Continuing Education and Workforce Development Center, 140 W. Mitchell St. Contact London at 817-272-2581 for more information, or to schedule an interview with Dr. Toni McKenna, Director of Continuing Nursing Education for UT Arlington, who will be teaching the course or one of the nationally recognized experts who assisted in authoring the course.
