ARLINGTON - Author and Newsweek editor Jon Meacham is the next speaker in The University of Texas at Arlington Maverick Speakers Series. He will speak at 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 16, at Texas Hall, 701 W. Nedderman Drive. Admission is free, but tickets are required. Visit www.utatickets.com for tickets.
Meacham will offer reflections on President Barack Obama's first year and the issues facing the nation: war, healthcare and the economy.
Meacham joined Newsweek as a writer in 1995 and became managing editor just three years later, at age 29. His books are "Franklin and Winston,' "American Gospel" and "American Lion," a biography of Andrew Jackson that was awarded the 2009 Pulitzer Prize. He is a frequent guest on "The Daily Show: and "The Colbert Report."
The Maverick Speakers Series, which feature some of the leading voices of our time addressing the most critical issues, is in its second year. The next speaker will be former Astronaut Sally Ride, the first American woman in space. Ride will speak at 8 p.m., Feb. 15, in Texas Hall, 701 W. Nedderman Drive.
