ARLINGTON - Visitors to The Gallery at UTA will get a peek at some of Dallas and Fort Worth art collectors' private treasures in September when Private Collections II, the gallery's next exhibit, opens.
The show, which will run from Sept. 8 - Oct. 16, features twenty museum-quality works from area collectors. A reception will be held 6 p.m.-8:30 p.m., Sept. 17 at the gallery in the UT Arlington Fine Arts Building, 502 South Cooper St.
"From Texas artists such as Vernon Fisher and Robyn O'Neil to international artists Louise Bourgeois and Yasumasa Morimura, this is an exciting array of works and media," said Benito Huerta, an associate professor and director of the gallery. "This demonstrates the richness and depth of art collecting in the local area and it is just the tip of the iceberg as far as collecting goes in the Metroplex."
Participating collectors include: Susan and Claude Albritton, of Dallas; Phyllis and Bob Fenton, of Fort Worth; Karol Howard and George Morton, of Plano; and Robyn Menter and Martin Posner, of Dallas.
Works shown include an eclectic assortment of modern and contemporary pieces by artists Jesse Amado, Diane Arbus, Radcliffe Bailey, Willie Birch, Louise Bourgeois, Michael Ray Charles, Chuck Close, Robert Colescott, Jim Dine, Vernon Fisher, Joseph Havel, Roy Lichtenstein, Yasumasa Morimura, Robyn O'Neil, Joseph Stashkevetch, Frank Stella, Annelies Strba, Donald Sultan, James Surls, and Andy Warhol.
In association with the exhibition, Benjamin Lima, a UT Arlington assistant professor of art history, will give a talk on the exhibit at 12 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 22, in the gallery.
The exhibit and all events are free and open to the public. Gallery hours are 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 12 p.m. - 5 p.m., Saturday. The gallery is located in room 169 at the north end of the Fine Arts Building, 502 South Cooper St.
