ARLINGTON - The United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce has named UT Arlington administrator Michele Bobadilla one of nine National Latina Leader award recipients for 2010, the group announced during its annual convention in Dallas this week.

Bobadilla is senior associate vice president for outreach services and community engagement and assistant provost for Hispanic student success at The University of Texas at Arlington. Her award was in the education category.

The chamber's announcement noted her "contributions and efforts in the field of education which have resulted in the advancement of the Hispanic community."

"Many people have served as my mentors and have shared their many talents with me," Bobadilla said. "Their generous spirits have afforded me the opportunity to pay it forward.  I feel incredibly blessed."

Bobadilla has served on the boards of 25 organizations in North Texas and more than 50 committees addressing the needs of the community at large. Her work has included chairing scholarship committees at both Dallas and Fort Worth Hispanic Chambers of Commerce.

Bobadilla also co-founded University Crossroads, a program that has provided more than 10,500 students with free SAT math preparation classes. She is also a former vice chair of the National League of United Latin American Citizens' Education Commission.
