ARLINGTON - The University of Texas at Arlington’s College of Nursing will stage a disaster preparedness demonstration for its students from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, at the Campus Recreation Fields Complex, near Fielder Road and Mitchell Street.
Planned participants in the event include UT Arlington Police, Arlington Medical Response, Arlington Police Department, Arlington Fire Department and PHI Helicopter. About 100 nursing students are scheduled to view equipment and procedures that would be used by the various agencies on the scene of a disaster.
A helicopter landing is planned as part of the event. A decontamination tent provided by a local hospital also will be set up on the parking lot. Two simulated patients or manikins will be provided by the UT Arlington Smart Hospital.
The site is just east of Arlington’s Swift Elementary School, 1101 S. Fielder Road.
More than 100 senior nursing students as well as RN-to-BSN program students are enrolled in a UT Arlington community health course this semester as required for their Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing degree. Friday’s demonstration is designed to show them how health care providers and other emergency services professionals work together during a disaster to protect the community.
