Primary Objectives
Make it easy to update web site content
Updating content shouldn't’t take an advanced degree in computer technology. One objective is to remove the “techie” to provide an easy-to-use tool for creating and updating Web content.
Standardize the tools used
The CMS should be the supported single tool for Web content development that will be used across the campus.
Show UT Arlington Branding
One of the reasons for using a CMS is to support a coherent, consistent look on interrelated pages throughout the UT Arlington Web site. When subtle but important changes are made to a design element – graphic, photo, or style sheet, for example – the changes can appear quickly on all pages using that particular element. The CMS will help reinforce a consistent branding and marketing message for UT Arlington. It will also provide a more consistent look and navigation that will improve our visitors’ Web experience.
Web site content accuracy
In addition to design elements, we also recognized the need for using a single source for authoritative content across the UT Arlington Web site. For example, there is one source for each Catalog (Undergraduate and Graduate). There should be an easy way to re-use content directly from those sources, without re-creating it. This would help replace the many different, non-authoritative, out-of-date versions of information. The CMS should promote the owning and sharing of content which will improve the content and information on the Web site.
Limit security vulnerabilities
The CMS will reduce security vulnerabilities by limiting the use of inadequate/non-standard Web tools.
Web accessibility
There must be a facility to support compliance with accessibility laws for both the Federal and State of Texas.
