Gunnip pointed out that the Martin Luther King holiday is late in 2008. The Spring semester will be in session for a week and then break for the holiday.

He also noted that Spring Break, March 10-14, is scheduled for the same week as the break for UT Austin and Texas A&M University. Arlington Independent School District has promised to schedule their break for the same week.

Since a new law requires that Texas K-12 public school districts begin their classes no earlier than the fourth Monday in August, they will be finishing up at the end of the first week of June. This will prevent teachers from attending the first and 11 week summer sessions which begin May 27. Gunnip said he will work with the College of Education to set up some late-start classes which is possible through the MyMav system.

The calendar was approved as submitted.

Other Business. Provost Dunn announced that the compliance report for the ten-year SACS reaffirmation has been submitted. This was a monumental undertaking spearheaded out of the office of Institutional Research and Planning under the direction of Pam Haws. Many people on campus played critical roles through the committees she constituted in terms of preparing it. Thanks to all those individuals. The document is available on the web, complete with links to hundreds of documents that are our various policies and procedures They did a wonderful job and it is a good policy document that will be a useful resource for us.

Adjournment. The meeting adjourned at 2:29 p.m.
