Major Exploration

The University Advising Center is here to help you choose the major that’s the right fit for you.

Step 1: Explore

-explore and take the assessments (personality, interests, skills, values) - email for more info and a free code

-schedule an appointment online for major exploration with a UAC advisor

-attend a self-assessment workshop offered by Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS)

-attend a Major Exploration Seminar

Step 2: Discover

-check out the degree plans that UTA offers

-explore department websites for more information about majors

-meet with an advisor for majors that you are considering

-take the UNIV 1131 Major Exploration class, offered fall and spring – email for more info

-talk to a career consultant in the Career Development Center

-take a look at career/salary websites like the Occupational Outlook Handbook, Career One Stop, and The College Board

Step 3: Decide

-declare your major by meeting with the advisor for that major

-develop your résumé and have it reviewed by the Career Development Center

-get an internship – check out internship websites like, InternWeb, Career Rookie, and Intern Abroad

-join a student organization
